Mighty Mouse Movements

Recently, we were talking about how much use a computer mouse gets here at Anabliss. How far does it travel? How many times is it clicked? How much does your clicking finger ache at the end of a busy week? These were just rhetorical questions for the sake of conversation, but I couldn’t help but wonder.

I searched for “mouse click counter for Mac” to no avail. I searched “carpal tunnel syndrome” and got worried. Then I searched for an app to measure my mouse’s movements and found a program called IOGraphica. It follows your cursor across the screen, creates a circle when your cursor is still and the longer it’s still the larger the circle gets.

I installed the app at work and let it run during a regular day of programming. What was created was very impressive. In a weird way, it’s beautiful. It reminds me of the airline maps in the back of an in-flight magazine.

So what do you think? Does my mouse get a workout or what? Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the big dot on the left… that was lunch.

Interesting! It reminds me of the eye tracker on how people read content on websites…though there’s definitely no relationship. Thanks for sharing!
